MUO presented Playtime from July 16 to August 25. All performances were free to attend.
Show description: Anna is SICK of studying and doing homework. Her school subjects are boring, and she’d rather imagine fantastical worlds and stories in her spare time. Luckily, Anna’s moms help her realize that learning is fun! Inspired by their daughter’s talent for creativity, they decide to dress up and create imaginary scenarios to bring Anna’s lessons to life.
Borrowing music from Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, Playtime features brand new English text written by Max Fingerote. Between July and August, chances are the Neighbourhood Opera Tour is coming to your area. And because admission is always free, this show is accessible to all families. Stay tuned for a full list of performance locations and dates.
Previously known as the Opera for Children Tour, MUO’s Neighbourhood Opera Tour began in 2017 with performances in just two Winnipeg locations. Since then, we've expanded our tour outside of Winnipeg, bringing opera to The Pas, Flin Flon, Thompson, Swan River, and more! This summer we are thrilled to be visiting First Nations communities for the first time. Families all over Manitoba will get to experience live opera right in their own communities. And since there is no admission fee for any of our performances, there are no financial barriers for any child who wishes to attend. We are able to present our Neighbourhood Opera Tour at no cost to hosting organizations or attendees thanks to the support of public grants and donations from generous opera lovers like you.
Manitoba Underground Opera was founded on Treaty 1 land, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. These lands are the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, and Nakota Nations. In addition, our tours extend throughout the province of Manitoba, also encompassing Treaties 2, 3, 4, and 5.
