Poppea

The Worlds of Opera and Experimental Theatre Collide

In the year 62 CE, the Roman emperor Nero put aside his wife, Octavia, in favour of his mistress, Poppea. Manitoba Underground Opera's experimental new production of Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea, led by director Brenna Corner and music director Deena Grier, will present a retelling of the circumstances surrounding this historical event. Set against the picturesque outdoor backdrop of La Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface, this production will see Orchestra members fully incorporated into the action alongside the singers to create an operatic experience like nothing seen in Winnipeg before.
