The role of opera, and the arts in general, is to act as a mirror to society, challenging us to understand our world in different ways. Our 2018 festival season, “Obsession”, does just that. Running from August 16-24, this season continues MUO's tradition of re-inventing classic operatic works in entertaining and thought-provoking ways. Motivated by current events, our main stage shows will specifically focus on powerful men and the victimization of the women they impact. All-female creative teams for our mainstage shows will shed new light on these stories, wresting some of that power away from men and centering the perspective of women and other less-privileged groups.
Rounding out our mainstage shows will be Jack and the Beanstalk, a family-friendly children's show; and Female Fortitude, a benefit concert that celebrates strong female characters from the classical operatic repertoire.
Thank you to everyone who attended our 2018 season. Stay tuned for news about upcoming events!
