MUO's long-awaited return to live opera is coming in August! In typical MUO fashion, we're bringing you a unique and exciting batch of shows that will cheer, challenge, and possibly change you.
You may have guessed that this year's theme, To Have and To Hold, looks at weddings and the traditions surrounding them. Canadian composer Ana Sokolovic's Svadba and Bluebeard's Castle by Bartok, two operas never before performed in Winnipeg, are combined as one thrilling double-bill. Our second mainstage show is Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict, based on Shakespeare's timeless comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Performed in an innovative drive-in format, this story of trickery and romantic hijinks ends happily with a double-wedding.
We're also collaborating with Willow Place, a family violence prevention organization here in Winnipeg, to bring you a poignant visual album called A Place of Healing. All proceeds from this digital release will be donated directly to Willow Place to support their crucial work.
We are so excited to safely share opera with you again!
Winnipeg's first drive-in opera! From the comfort of your vehicle, enjoy a live concert presentation of Béatrice et Bénédict against the picturesque backdrop of Lower Fort Garry.
This unconventional show is like no opera you've ever seen. Presented in the Winnipeg Art Gallery, this hybrid production features a live singer alongside video projections of other performers.
We’ve partnered with Willow Place, a local charity that provides violence prevention services, to bring you a new digital show. This visual album consists of music videos and interviews with experts on domestic violence and its effects. 100% of sales go directly to Willow Place to support the important work they do.
